I’m helping organize a career event under the BigBang banner called STEM@Sea.
It launches in October and will give kids the opportunity to learn about the huge number of potential careers in the Ocean Science, Marine Tech and Hydrographic Survey sectors. We have over a dozen companies supporting it already as well as Plymouth University and the Royal Navy.
You will get to meet some people from the industries, talk about the routes into their roles, play with some of the cool tech and learn about where the study of our oceans and the technology involved is going in the future.
The £500 would help make it an absolutely awesome day out for the visitors!

Along with some colleagues, I help to run a series of different activities aimed at engaging the public in science and engineering in Manchester. These have previously been events at both the Manchester Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry as well as school visits and workshops. The money will be added to the fund for this (although we will carry on even if I don’t receive it).

I’ll use it to help organise a school visit with SCI-FUN, which is a science road show that goes to schools and communities to explain science and engineering to young people
