• Question: On average, how much do engineers and architectures get a year? I'm thinking of becoming one or the other.

A recent engineering graduate like me earns between £22000 – £26000 a year. This can be higher sometimes. Your pay increases the more experience you have 🙂 Engineers get paid very attractive salaries – it’s one of the top paying professions. I’m not too sure about architects I’m afraid.

I have friends studying Architecture, I think the salaries are comparable but it takes a very long time to qualify as an Architect (seven years at uni I think). You definitely start earning and get on the career ladder earlier as an engineer and in the end you may end up working on the same projects (in a slightly different role though).

      Ditto Gina,

The pay for engineers is good, and I’m yet to meet an architect with a rubbish car… unless it’s an old classic they’re doing up or driving because it’s “ironic”.

So which ever you choose, be committed and work hard, you will get the rewards your efforts deserve

      Hi LDM,

I’ll say follow which one you’re most passionate about. The salaries are comparable and for any career, the higher up you go, the more money you get!
