• Question: I'm a girl and i was wondering is it harder to be accepted into the science community than boys

      Hi Lucy, harder isn’t the right word. Boys might think they are better than you – but its fun when you prove them wrong. I get treat like one of the boys at work now (but they still open doors for me and are polite)

      I don’t think the word to describe it is harder, Yes, there are fewer girls in Engineering, but then it’s a chance for you to prove that a girl not only survive but thrive when the majority are boys!

      Hi Lucy, I’m not a girl so I can’t give a first hand perspective but there are more girls than boys in my research group in Manchester (not all of these are engineers but they are expert scientists). I also have some close female friends from university who have gone on to be really successful engineers in big companies. I would tell you to do whatever you are interested in and not worry about how many other girls are doing the same thing.
